Saturday 9th December saw the final of club’s Major singles played in beautiful sunshine albeit with a slight cooling breeze. The match was billed as a game between the master and the apprentice-Laurie Keene v Jason Lawrence. So the question was, would it live up to the expectations surrounding it? The answer, it sure did!
Jason kicked off proceedings taking the first end, however Laurie came roaring back to win the next 15 out of 20 ends to lead 20 shots to six. Masterful bowls claiming shots when all appeared lost were the feature of this period of play. Only 4 ends produced more than a 1 shot win! Jason then started to turn the tables and slowly but surely whittled away the deficit winning eight of the next twelve ends bringing his score to 19 shots, however as gallant a fightback as it was Laurie just plugged away finally winning the match 25 shots to 19 shots.
At the completion of the match the audience on hand broke into a great round of applause showing how appreciative they were to witness such a game.
Congratulations to Laurie on the fine win and commiserations to Jason, however you did yourself proud, and also for the fantastic game of bowls you both delivered.
