Prestige 4's - November 2024

Saturday the 2nd of November saw the commencement of our 2 day Men’s Prestige Fours Tournament with 64 bowlers playing 5 rounds of 2 bowl fours.

The weather was beautiful with a slight breeze and bright sunshine – great conditions for the playing of bowls.

Through the course of the 3 rounds played Saturday, very tight games were the order of the day with only 5 games out of 24 having a margin above 10 shots. Two drawn games also featured during the day showing that a very competitive tournament was taking place. Over the course of the day the leader-board was chopping and changing however one team was making its presence felt.

We returned Sunday morning to recommence the game after a fantastic breakfast BBQ fundraiser for Bungwahl Public school, however the weather started to deteriorate with the wind picking up very strongly. Once again great bowling and great camaraderie were the order of the day.

At the end of the tournament there can only be one winning team – congratulations to Jason Price, Peter Schroeder, Dave Penman and John Morton from Forster Bowling club on your great win finishing with 4 wins and a plus 27 margin.

A big thank-you to all the bowlers from our Manning-Great Lakes bowls region and other bowlers who came from far and wide, helping to make a very successful weekend of bowls.

Our club held the much-anticipated final of the club pairs on Sunday 24th of March 2024. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon with a light cooling breeze, fantastic for a good game of lawn bowls. The pairings of Corey Fitzgerald & Mick Ansell were taking on the well-versed pairing Laurie Keene & John Higman. Both teams were up for the challenge and on paper it was looking like it would be a very tight, close game and it did not disappoint. The game was played hard with some incredibly accurate bowling on display from both teams. Corey and Mick came out an attacked the 1st end and by the 8th end were up 10 shots to 2. However, the older heads of Laurie and John were able to rein in that lead and by the 11th end were only one shot behind. The next 10 ends produced some precise bowling especially from Corey and Mick as they were able to hold onto there slender lead. Unfortunately, whilst still plugging away, Laurie and John could not keep up with the young guns of Corey and Mick who eventually ran out winner 25 to 17. At the conclusion of the game, the large crowd that had amassed to watch the final gave the guys a standing ovation for such an enthralling game of bowls. A big congratulation to Corey Fitzgerald and Mick Ansell on being crowned the 2024 Pairs Champions at Pacific Palms Bowling Club. Commiseration to Laurie Keene and John Higman who pushed Corey and Mick all the way to the end.

A beautiful sunny morning with a gentle breeze blowing across the green greeted 64 bowlers as they commenced the first game of 5 games of 15 ends 2bowl fours on Saturday 14th October. After 2 rounds in the morning, the players had a break for lunch, meanwhile the leader-board was updated. At this stage of the competition there were only a sprinkling of games with a margin greater than 10 shots. An extra end was required in a few games to determine the winning team, close games were the order of the day. The final round for Saturday was played in what can only be described as a sunny afternoon with occasional blustery winds. Testing conditions for bowling! Sunday morning commenced with a delicious BBQ fundraiser breakfast with all proceeds raised donated to the Bungwahl primary school. Once again close results, great bowling and all very competitive games and more draws happening across the green. At the conclusion of the bowls and lunch the leader-board was updated which now showed the winners and runners up as follows: 1st place with 5 wins & 37 margin S. Reed, G. Rashleigh, S. Locke /sub G Chapman, R. Turnbull - Team from Buladelah In summary a very successful two days of bowls played in a very competitive but friendly manner. A big thankyou to all the bowlers who took part and made the tournament the success it was.

On the 10th & 11th of December 2022, Zone 11 held there portion of NSW Rookies Championship which is for those players who have only been playing lawn for a short period of time. We were fortunate enough to have two (2) from our club attend, Jason Lawrence and John Kell. Both very capable bowlers and were looking forward to pitting themselves against other rookies in the Zone. Both played extremely well over the two (2) day event with Jason and John playing each other in one of the round games. Jason who only lost one game over the two (2) days (which was the game between Jason and John Kell) was the eventual winner and will now head to Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on Sunday 5th of February for the playoffs. We wish Jason all the best and hopefully he can continue his winning ways at the playoffs in February.

With covid behind us we were able to recommence our regular Tradies v Bowlers day which took place on Sunday 11th December. We were blessed with some glorious weather and had 42 players from the Bowling and Tradies fraternity to face off against one another to see who be crowned the champions for 2022. The competition was quite fierce throughout the day with a lot of great sledging between the two groups. Once the dust settled it was the bowlers who were able to come out o0f top and grab bragging rights until next years event. The day itself was not just about the bowling but was also to help raise money for local Kids Sports and The Westpac Helicopter. Deb the raffle queen made sure everyone had tickets for the raffles and we ran a couple of spiders with a gold coin donation per turn. All up the day raised $1,020 dollars and was dived up by: $255 to Westpac Helicopter $255 to Pacific Palms Netball $255 to Pacific Palms Soccer $255 to Nippers A massive thank you to Laurie Keene who did a stellar job in getting this event up and running again and for ensuring that everyone had a cracker day.
